Peter and The Wolf is a Russian symphonic tale for children. The work is narrated and tells a Russian folk tale, which the orchestra illustrates by using different instruments and musical themes to represent each character in the story. Each character in the tale is represented by a specific instrument in the orchestra: The bird by a flute, the duck by an oboe, the cat by a clarinet playing staccato in a low register, the grandfather by a bassoon, the wolf by three horns, Peter by the string quartet, and the hunters’ gunshots by the kettledrums and bass drum. This production is danced by 10 members of the Atlantic City Ballet and choreographed by Artistic Director Phyllis Papa. Ms. Papa first choreographed the ballet in 1976 for the Stars of American Ballet.
