Purim in 2010 will start on Sunday,    February 28 and will continue Monday,    March 1.
Purim “Lots“ is a festival that commemorates the     deliverance of the Jewish people of the ancient Persian
Empire from Haman‘s plot to annihilate them. Haman cast     lots to determine the day upon which to exterminate the     Jews. According to the story, Queen Esther & Mordechai     saved the Jewish communities in ancient Persia by     convincing King Ahashveros to punish Haman instead of     the Jews. Purim is characterized by reading of the Book of     Esther, giving mutual gifts of food and drink (mishloach     manot), giving charity to the poor (Tzedakah), and enjoying     a celebratory meal. Other customs include drinking wine,     wearing of masks and costumes, and public celebration.
